A lot goes into removing stumps! Things like rocky soil, size, access issues, type of tree, and excess chip removal are just some of the factors involved in figuring out the cost for removing stumps. The reasons for removal can also be a factor. Most likely, you may be on the lower side of the cost spectrum if you are simply sick of mowing around or looking at the stump and its exposed roots, and have property to dump excess chips. Or, you may desire for fresh topsoil to be back filled into the hole and grass/straw laid down if the stump is in a nicer area of the yard. As a general rule, we will grind the stump at least 8 inches deep, this includes any exposed roots away from the main stump. The pit is then back filled with dirt and chips from the grinding, and tamped down to a level grade. All excess chips are removed from the job area, and finally, the site is blown clean leaving it better then we found it. If soil and grass seed is desired, then of course all chips and loose material is removed and fresh topsoil brought in before seeding takes place.
